Vol-un-teer 1: A person who offers him or herself for a service or duty. In the case of the United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley, it's local people choosing freely to do sometheing nice to help other local people. People who go above and beyond the responsibilities of their daily lives...beyond work, school, family, and church commitments, to help improve the quality of life for their friends and neighbors.
Vol-un-teer 2: Offering to enter into service of one's own fee will. In other words, "volunteer" is not just a person, but also an action. If you aren't currently a volunteer, you can choose to volunteer. And the United Way of NSV can offer a number of opportunities to suit your interests and fit into your schedule. It's a great way to meet new friends, get involved, help others, and feel good about yourself at the same time.
